Pau Gasol of the NBA Championship team Los Angeles Lakers, Humanitarian and,...Singer?(WATCH VIDEO)

Video:

Pau Gasol is fresh off his back to back NBA Championship win with the Los Angeles Lakers. So naturally, you would think that he would be resting after what proved to be a battle to the end against the Boston Celtics, but NO, there's no time for rest for Pau because he's on a mission. He's got a goal. That goal is to help as many underpriveleged, education deprived people around the world.   Pau is a very charitable person, not just financially but he's very giving of his time.  For almost a decade, Pau has embraced the opportunity to give back to his world community at every chance he gets. Today we're holed up in the North Hollywood studio of hit producing team "The Heavyweights" to watch Pau lend his singing voice (yes that's what I said) to a record created to bring awareness to the need for schools in Africa.  "Get It Together", a song written and produced by Roycel Cooks of the L.A based band The Broshigeez ( www.reverbnation.com/broshigeez ) along with  Jamie Jones, Grammy Award winning singer of ALL-4-ONE fame (www.all-4-one.com), has Pau bringing out his smooth spanish baritone voice on the track, and you know what...he's pretty good. He sings in key and it's obvious he has an ear for music after taking 5 years of piano lessons when he was younger. Pau sings straight to the point lyrics that state "It's time to re-arrange, help out one another, Don't you realize we are all sisters and brothers" and I for one believe he means what he sings because his personal actions dictate so.Pau Gasol Recording (copyright 2010 breakoutmagazine.com)

Pau sat down with Breakoutmagazine.com to answer a couple of questions.

Pau, How did you get involved with all of this, why was it important?

Well I've been a Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF for 6 or 7 years now, and this last year, I said to myself, I wanted to do something more, I wanted to do something more personal and be more involved and attached, other than travel to South Africa, I traveled to Angola, I saw the work that UNICEF was doing there and how amazing that was.  I transferred all my knowledge back to my country, back to my world but now I wanted to do something more, take it to another level, so we put this project together and we started a year ago just on studying what we can do, what are the areas, so we decided to start with Ethiopa and building schools in an area where the rate of kids going to school is extremely low. I think education, sanitation are the main factors for kids to develop, for a country to develop and for the future to be brighter.

Being someone of your caliber, is there a significant point in your life where you realized that charity work was something you had to do?

No, it's something I feel like doing, it's something... you feel it, cause it's something that has to come out of you, otherwise your involvement, you compromise, your commitment to it is gonna be affected, it's something you have to feel, and it's something that I really feel and I enjoy doing and I take a lot of pride also in doing. I think it's important that guys in our position are aware of the impact that we can have on other people, kids looking up to you. I think it's a very good example to set and to follow, so if we can get more people on board and create a bigger impact to this communities, countries that are in such poverty and terrible situations we can make a huge difference.

After a few more questions about his charity work, and then I HAD to ask about the NBA FINALS this year.

It was such an up and down series this year, was there ever a time where you thought you might not pull this out?

No, to be honest, I always had a lot of faith in my team and our guys...uh, it got tough, it got rough at times and it was a very competitive series but you gotta believe in your chances, and even though it may have looked bad at certain times, and Game 7, it was rough for most of the game but we still dug in and grinded it out and gave ourselves at the end and pulled out a great win.

You were very emotional after Game 7, was there a reason why this championship win was more emotional?

It was probably harder to get than the one before. It came down to Game 7, it was emotionally draining, physically we had to give everything we had, so to be able to come out on top... it was the ultimate satisfaction.
